Success through innovation

GFH2000 Gravity Fed Hot Melt Adhesive Application.

Product:

GFH1000 Gravity Fed Hot Melt Adhesive Application System

Application:

The application of hot melt adhesive and acqueous dispersion adhesive(PVA) fed by gravity, on a filter making machine.

Overview:

Designed to apply hot melt and PVA adhesives to the filter plug paper. The GFH2000 filter rod adhesive application system is versatile modular system, which enables different configurations of hot melt and PVA adhesive to be applied to filter rods.

Key Features

  • Gravity fed adhesive application uses minimal adhesive to create a fast bond, reducing lap slippage and improving diameter control. Up to 40% less hot melt applied compared to pump fed system when running porous paper..
  • Up to 70% reduction of tow waste during start up, from 18lbs to 5lbs (2Kg) as the start- up procedure is significantly reduced.
  • Low maintenance system.
  • Stepped temperature control through the tank, hose and applicator prevents hot melt charring in the tank, reducing stoppage for rod break-outs and reject filters.
  • Multiple configurations of hot melt side seam, supplementary PVA and tow retention are available.
  • Modular back plate and simple valve setting with horizontal and vertical adjustment.
  • Eliminates bleed-through, reducing downtime for cleaning, increasing production speed by as much as 200m per minute when running highly porous paper, leading to increased machine efficiency.
  • Carbide coated nozzle tip for long life.

FAQs

APPLICATOR

Can the nozzle be replaced as a single part?
No. The needle and nozzle are machined as a matched pair to ensure the integrity of the seal.

Are the nozzles available with different diameter outlet?
Yes. 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm and 2.0mm as standard, other sizes on request

How can we determine the correct replacement needle and nozzle?
The simplest way is to provide Kaymich with the applicator serial number located in the keyway. Otherwise confirmation of the nozzle diameter and host making machine is required.

GRAVITY FED HOT MELT

How do we adjust the amount of adhesive applied to the filter rod?
The flow rate of the adhesive is controlled by the rear adjuster on the applicator; this determines the distance the needle retracts from the nozzle and hence, adhesive flow.

Is the application relative to machine speed?
Yes, the Venturi pressure drop principle is created by the cigarette paper and air passing over the end of the nozzle. It is therefore self-regulating.

What types of glue can be used?
Hot Melt Adhesive, high tack, fast setting. – Viscosity range 1000 – 5000 centipoise with solids content 45% to 55%.

What filter making machine speed can the gravity fed system handle?
Depending upon materials, up to 500 metres/minute.

What temperature hot melt does it work with?
Anything up to 200 degrees Celsius

What line combinations can we have?
One hot melt, plus one secondary PVA line, plus anything from 1 to 6 lines for tow retention. Can also be used in combination with Spray Tow system if required.

How do we ensure the flow of hot melt is correct?
The paper draws away as much of the adhesive as it can carry in a narrow defined line, therefore minimising chances of bleed through.

What services are required?
220Vac input only. 5 Bar air pressure.

Notes

  • Gravity option maximum speed 500 metres per minute.
  • Melt rate 4kg/hour. .
  • Hot melt adhesive viscosity range 1000-3000 centipoise.
  • PVA adhesive viscosity range 150-1500 centipoise.
  • Not to be used with lubricated air supplies.
